We once again invite you to our voluntary blood donation event, on Thursday the 4th and Friday the 5th of May 2023, at 11:00-15:30, which will take place at the UoA Faculty of Philosophy, Room 301, in partnership with E. KE. A., the Hellenic Blood Donation Centre.
As always, the blood donation will be voluntary and the collected blood units, will be provided in favor of the uknown patient in need.
The procedure is simple and quick and strictly executed by the specialized E. KE. A. personel.
General info;
- Donating blood is safe.
- All the medical equipment that will be used is sterilized and of single use.
- All the blood donors boost their health by donating blood, as the body is forced to replace the blood that has been lost by making new white blood cells and platelets.
To keep the number of attendants under control, in order to avoid overcrowding the room, the volunteers are kindly requested to fill the google form or alternatively to contact the E. KE. A. by calling at 2132146716 or 2132146726, to book their appointment.
Requirments:
- 6 or more hours of sleep the night before.
- Having eaten breakfast or a snack an hour before.
- No alcohol consumption (up to 1 small glass of wine is fine).
- At least 3 months post previous blood donation for males and 4 months accordingly for females.
- At least post 4 months of getting a piercing or tattoo.
- Not having a cold/ the flu.
- To not consume any antibiotics or aspirin for 7 days at least prior to the blood donation.
- The blood donor must provide their ID card or their driver's license.
- Females can now donate blood while menstruating only if their hematocrit value is high enough.
- Minimum weight of 50kg (approx.110 lbs).
The procedure;
- Blood pressure and hematocrit check.
- Medical history interview by the blood donation doctor.
- Blood donation preparation of the donor.
- Blood donation that will last 10 minutes.
- The donor is then provided with a treat and orange juice, in order to assist their bodies in replacing the blood lost.
- Short stay in the donation hall and guidelines discussion for the following day.
We will also be more than happy to discuss with any attendant interested in bone marrow donation, as also to take a saliva sample from those who will have decided to become bone marrow donors and join the international record.
